Poland changed the way I love people —

By Sara Allen

I was so nervous about going on an Engage mission trip to Poland because I don’t speak any sort of Polish language. I wondered “How am I going to share the love of God if I can’t even speak their language?”

I’ll never forget the moment when I boarded the plane. I felt so discouraged thinking that the language barrier would block me from relationships with the people serving CIY’s mission partner, Proem Ministries.

"God’s amazing love has absolutely no boundaries, and it was eye-opening for me to see that 5,000 miles away from my home. I cannot wait to go back. "

All the way there my worry became a fear – but then something incredible happened. As soon as we arrived at the Proem summer camp for kids, an overwhelming sense of home fell over me. Every person we encountered was so welcoming and loving that it erased all the doubts, worries and fears I had.

I felt no barrier at all with the kids we interacted and played with at the Proem program. Instead of responding negatively to my inability to speak Polish, they would smile and even hug me in moments. It was a love with no boundaries.

I’ve never seen or experienced anything like this. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me, and it changed the way I see and treat people back home.

Every day, I strive to express the kind of love I experienced in Poland – with no boundaries. God convicted my heart and showed me how I’ve been quick to judge people sometimes. Instead of responding negatively to something I don’t understand, I’m now trying to love everyone.

God’s amazing love has absolutely no boundaries, and it was eye-opening for me to see that 5,000 miles away from my home. I cannot wait to go back.
