Our God is an Awesome God —

By Chris Roberts

Fifty years is a long time to watch God work in the world. When we serve a God who knows the number of hairs on all of our heads – and there are about 8 billion people in the world – then the thought of all of God’s works over the course of 50 years is mind-blowing.

It is, in a word: AWESOME!

Our God is an awesome God, and we’re extremely excited about getting to celebrate all that He has done through the ministry of CIY over the past 50 years. Though we’ve already been celebrating in many ways throughout the year, our big celebration comes on Aug. 30 at Christ’s Church of Oronogo near Joplin, Missouri. It will be a night of remembering and thanking and laughing and crying and community. If you haven’t registered to come yet, make sure to do so at

But more than anything it will be a celebration of God’s work. That’s appropriate for a ministry that emphasizes Kingdom work. It’s not a celebration of what we have done, or the works that have happened throughout the world because of any human effort. It’s a celebration of the Kingdom work that has been laid before us by our Father in Heaven, championed to us by our savior Jesus Christ, and spurred on through us by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes I just chuckle and shake my head when people marvel at God’s works. Why should we be surprised by what He can do? In the history of our world, He has shown over and over and over again that He is capable and great and mighty things. He has shown that He is faithful to His people, even when we are not faithful to Him. And He has shown that when His people are obedient to the calling He has placed on their lives, then He blesses those endeavors for His glory.

He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

So when we celebrate the 50 years of Kingdom work that God has done through the ministry of CIY, we do it not only in awe and humility, but also with a confident expectation that as long as we continue to remain faithful and obedient, He will continue to bless the efforts of the ministry for the next 50 years, and then the next 50 years beyond that.

Not for our glory, but for HIS.

And getting to be a small piece of that work – to participate in the things of God’s glory and to be a member of something so righteous and holy – is worth celebrating!

So join with us. Celebrate with us. We’d love for you to join us on Aug. 30 at our CIY Celebration. It will be a night to remember. But there are other ways to celebrate, too. Share stories on social media. Send pictures for us to share on our accounts or in the Kingdom Worker Connection magazine. Encourage friends to share their stories and come to CIY events.

And, best of all, go and tell what the Lord has done for you.
