“What Happened Was …” is a new book that compiles those experiences into 23 stories told in the style of a conversation with the author, Jonah Sorrentino – better known as the Christian rapper KJ-52. He’s the fast-talking Kingdom worker students have come to love on CIY’s Believe stages. His book gives his fans an inside look at how he was discovered and other behind-the-scenes moments, such as his first four-song demo, his first rap and the time he set a world record. The book can be found through his website and Amazon.
“What Happened Was …” is also an audio book, with a soundtrack and poems that in essence doubles as an album. That album can be found on Spotify and other digital streaming sites, and contains 35 tracks with eight new, original songs.
“I know people experience media in a lot of different ways,” KJ-52 said. “Why not connect with people on different wavelengths? ‘What Happened Was …’ was fan-funded, fan-picked and fan-inspired. Some chapters are answers to frequently asked questions, some are from experiences I had with CIY tours, but all of the stories were fan-picked because there’s a difference between what I want to talk about and what people want to hear about. They all have a resolution, they are all positive and have something to take away. What’s cool is that something is different for everybody. There’s power in your testimony, and it’s been so cool to see what God has done in my life and used it as a tool for others.”
