‘American Ninja Warrior’ inspires preteens to overcome obstacles —

By Becca Haines

Emily Durham – a contestant from the television show “American Ninja Warrior” – will be joining CIY’s SuperStart program for the fall/spring tour.

The weekend conference that’s designed specifically for students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades will be coming to 12 locations across the U.S. with the action-packed theme, “Conquering Gargantor: Overcoming the Obstacles of Sharing Your Story.”

“We’ve talked to preteen pastors around the country about what it’s like for preteens and what keeps them from sharing their stories,” said Patrick Snow, CIY’s senior director for weekend events. “They don’t feel like they have a story, or there’s fear, or it’s not something they’re motivated to do because they don’t think about sharing their stories with others or even see the purpose behind doing so. Understanding that we all have a story because Jesus died for us is the big picture. When we say ‘conquering Gargantor,’ we’re talking about conquering the difficult things that keep us from sharing the stories of God in our lives.”

SuperStart is intentionally designed to captivate the minds of 11-to-13-year-olds through interactive theatrics. There are characters on stage, and a story that unravels over the course of the weekend, with members of the audience getting to participate along the way.
