We woke up this morning refreshed after a good night’s sleep. Jet lag is no joke! A good breakfast got us all going and led into personal quiet time with Jesus for each of us. After this we had some time of learning and setting up the week for things that will be happening.
Next we dove into the life and faith of St. Patrick and the significance of his story. We watched a film to learn more about him and then went out to visit some sites around the area related to Patrick. We learned that he was the first person to bring Christianity to Ireland (very shortened version of his life) and we even went to the site where Patrick started the first church in Ireland. It’s surreal being in a place where people have been worshipping Jesus for more than 1,500 years. We spent some time praying in the church and thanking God for his faithfulness.
After visiting those sites we came back to the RIOT house for dinner and then took some time getting ready for the Youth Center to open for the evening. Once local students started showing up, our team was mingling and making new friends. We used this first night to make introductions, learn names, play games, laugh and closed the evening singing a couple of worship songs together. The night was fun and a good start to the week ahead with the RIOT kids. It’ll be great to see familiar faces tomorrow night and know their names. We’re thanking the Lord for the opportunity to spend time with each of these kids, knowing that God loves them more than we will ever know. Our prayer and hope is that we can continue to plant seeds of the love and grace of Jesus into their hearts.
We finished out the evening as a team sharing about and processing through our experiences of the day. There is so much we can learn from each other as we share about the things God is teaching us. It was a fantastic first, full day! Thanks for your continued prayers for our team.
