Northern Ireland 4 Update 3
Posted: Monday, July 23, 2018
It was a beautiful sunny (mid 70s) Sunday here in Northern Ireland today. Not only was the weather warm but our team received an exceptionally warm welcome from the Lagan Valley Vineyard Church where we worshipped with fellow believers during their morning service.
After church we made our way to Victoria Square in the heart of Belfast. We enjoyed lunch together at a lovely buffet and took in the sights, sounds and shops in the historic downtown area.
Late afternoon we drove just a short distance to experience the “Peace Walls.” (A series of separation barriers that separate predominantly Republican and Nationalist Catholic neighborhoods from predominantly Loyalist and Unionist Protestant neighborhoods.) We were overwhelmed to see and feel the towering dividing walls and recognize the reality of all the brokenness it represents among the Northern Ireland people. Our hosts, Chris and Leah, helped us understand much of the hard realities and we spent some time reflecting and praying for much-needed forgiveness to bring peace.
Finally, we made our way back to our campus for supper and final preparation for our work with the children to begin tomorrow in a local primary school and area church. Please pray our efforts will be Holy Spirit empowered, shining forth the hope we have in Jesus. The team is all doing well and we are so grateful for your thoughts and prayers.
