Ireland MOVE Update 2
Posted: Monday, August 05, 2019
Sunday was our first full day in Ireland and we got to see and experience some of the great beauty found here in this country. After breakfast, we split off on our own around campus for morning quiet time. The devotion talked about the importance of “being” before “doing” - of being filled with Christ and the Spirit and being who He created us to be. The “doing,” or the output will come from the outflow of being with Jesus. We talked about how this week will be so much more about “being” and building relationships and sharing about our walks with Christ than it will be about doing a project or a task. We get to be.
After our quiet time we left for an hour drive to Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains. There’s an old Monastic city where we walked around ruins of buildings and a cathedral that were from as early as the 9th century. Down past the Monastic city are two lakes. We stopped at the larger of the two to take in the scenery and eat our packed lunches. After eating we started on the hike up to the top of the mountain that overlooks the lake. After lots of stairs, steep pathways, and encouragement from teammates, everyone made it to the top! And as we all stood along the top, catching our breath and cooling off, we were all captivated by the breathtaking view. Such a beautiful place. We serve such a creative God!
After some time at the top, we hiked back down the mountain and enjoyed the scenery along the way—the tall trees, the waterfall, the river.
Once we were down off the mountain we walked back to the bus and drove back to the school in time for dinner. After dinner we debriefed as a team and heard from everyone what our hopes are for this week as we watch God work in us and through us. We’re expecting big things, for God to move in powerful ways, and for relationships to be built within our team and with the Irish young people who will be attending as well. It was a great day and we’re excited for what’s to come!!
