Honduras Spring Break Update 1
Posted: Sunday, March 17, 2019
After a very early start to the day, we arrived safely this afternoon into Honduras. We learned that pilots need a special training to be able to land on the Tegucigalpa air strip because this beautiful city is nestled in a bowl of mountains. Our mission partners from His Eyes, Felipe and Oscar, picked us up at the airport and we rode up to the mission house, Honduran style (in the back of Ford trucks!). The His Eyes campus sits toward the top of the rim on a mountainside that overlooks the city and valley below. The view from the mission house is incredible!
After we unloaded our bags into our rooms, we had catrachas (tortillas and beans and cheese). It was a delicious first taste of Honduras! After lunch Felipe went through a bit of orientation and then gave us a tour of the His Eyes campus. He shared a lot of history of the ministry and the ways it has grown from when it first started. It was a great set-up to the week ahead and the things we’ll be a part of as we join in this work that God is here. We’re getting glimpses of that already in just a few hours of being here.
After the tour we talked through some team responsibilities and then ate dinner. Another great meal, this time chicken and rice and fresh fruit. Because of the early morning, we called it a night fairly early to let everyone get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow we’ll head up to the mountains to Sampedrana (about a 2 hour drive) to join a church service.
Looking forward to our first full day here! Thanks for all the prayers for safe and smooth travel. We’re grateful to be here and know we couldn’t be doing what we’re doing without your continued prayers. We’re expectant for God to do great things this week in our hearts and those we are here to encourage.
