Dominican Republic 2: Update 3
Posted: Thursday, July 12, 2018
It is Wednesday evening, and we have had quite a full day. We started the day pretty early as we were all out the door and on our bus before 7 a.m. We traveled to Cotuí, a city two hours north of Santo Domingo, to work on a water purification plant for their city. Specifically, we are helping to complete the exterior structure. Today we worked mostly with rebar and concrete to help build pillars for the structure. We are headed to Cotuí tomorrow and Friday also and will be providing photo updates as we go.
There is so much to say about Cotuí. There is so much beauty but also so much brokenness. In seeing some of the poverty that exists in their community, it has begun to open the eyes to the different types of poverty that we face in our own communities in the U.S. We are excited to share more about this with friends and family once we are back home next week.
Tonight we were able to attend a Wednesday night worship service at our partner church, El Círculo. What a fun experience! For many of us, it was our first time at a Spanish-speaking service. They did have a translator though, so we were able to follow along and hear the message about the importance of prayer in the Christian life. Also, our Dominican friends really worship with a lot of passion, and they have some great musicians here!
That’s all for now. We will talk again soon and will provide photos to give you a glimpse into our daily activities.
