Dominican Republic 1: Update 6
Posted: Wednesday, June 27, 2018
Today we finished out our time in Cotui working with the people there, building the foundation of a water filtration system, as well as teaching the last VBS lesson on the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abendigo.
We have all been continually amazed at the sense of family and community in the DR, and the people of Cotui have been no exception, allowing us to work alongside them and sharing children with us. Many of us mixed concrete for the first time, and we set in the rebar that will support the building.
The kids were all smiles today, though many were sad to see us go (and some tears were shed on the bus going home too). Overall, God has been visible in incredible ways. Everyone on the team is now closer than ever, having shared many meals, long hours on buses, lots of laughs, and some blood, sweat, and tears along the way. The hours of construction work have taught us the meaning of hard labor and how rewarding it can be, and the endless piggyback rides and broken English-to-Spanish conversations with children have shown us the true, innocent, and powerful love God has for us all.
Now, we are looking forward to our relaxing beach/shopping day, where we'll spend even more time with everyone, and have lots of fun bartering for souvenirs and gifts for back home!
