Dominican Republic 1: Update 4
Posted: Monday, June 25, 2018
Today was an amazing day, to say the least! Following two days of working in Catui, we got to sleep in and enjoy some time getting to know each other better, and reflecting on the previous four days! After breakfast and some time to spend with our team, we headed to El Circulo, the church we are partnering with. We were very blessed to be a part of their first-ever Sunday with two worship services! It is really cool to see how God is working in and growing El Circulo. Their worship service was amazing! Seeing how they worship is incredible! There was absolutely no holding back!
After worship, the wonderful people from El Circulo provided us lunch, and then we headed to a leprosy colony. This was probably the most moving experience we have had collectively as a team, so far. All of the people are under treatment. It is not contagious at this point per the local contacts. It is basically a nursing home that is in a nice block style hospital. It was very clean, and the staff was very nice and attentive. They were missing some limbs and such, but their spirits were inspiring. There was an older man that had been a preacher. He was amazing at the age of 86, and shared an amazing perspective on meeting us in Heaven one day.
We were able to give the patients care packages, pray over them, and even converse with them with some help of the translators! After talking and praying with some residents, we went to the courtyard and sang a few worship songs. The best way to describe this moment was that God was right there with us! It was a moment that we may never forget!
When we left the colony, we headed back to Santo Domingo and walked around what is known as the "first city." It was really cool to see all of the old architecture and history that was there! There were multiple shops and businesses that we were able to go into. We went to Yogen Fruz, which had some delicious ice cream! Then, we headed back to where we are staying to have dinner and to do our debriefing! We are excited to see how God continues to work the next few days! We appreciate your prayers!
