2019 Northern Ireland RIOT 4 Update 5

Posted: Thursday, July 11, 2019

From Jake Hiatt:

Today in Northern Ireland we started out going to a historic museum about the beginning of Northern Ireland. We were there for a few hours learning about how the island began to shape and form into what it is now. It was extremely cool to see all the artifacts like their weapons, clothing and their currency.

After the museum we went off the the peace wall of Belfast. The peace wall was a breathtaking experience to witness firsthand. It was awesome to see everyone writing on the walls and just feeling gods presence and praying.

Then we went to a decathlon store and I helped pitch in to buy a basketball goal with the other group leaders for the RIOT youth center. When we got back everyone helped pitch in on assembling the goal and burying it into the ground. After that we all had a blast playing basketball (a sport the ireland doesn’t have) with all the little kids, especially this kid Nathan. Nathan is in a wheelchair but is always a blast to have around. He doesn’t let anything stop him from doing what he wants. And at the end of the day I ended up playing 1v1 wheelchair basketball with him.
