2019 Northern Ireland RIOT 4 Update 2
Posted: Sunday, July 07, 2019
Church matters. And we saw a lot of it today!
We started this beautiful Sunday in Downpatrick at Journey Church. We worshipped in a space we all agreed had many similarities to our home churches. We sang songs we recognized and enjoyed meeting new people.
Church was followed by a proper Sunday dinner where we got a lengthy lesson on parsnips from Richie. So naturally it was followed by nap time/card games/walks to explore the town.
The highlight of the day was hearing the story of RIOT from Richie, and how God is using him to be a beacon of peace in a country tense with religious conflict. God chose Richie to start RIOT as a way to introduce young people in Dundrum to Jesus. We got to hear his story, as well as a bit of the history of the Catholic/Protestant conflict.
This evening we attended Newcastle Presbyterian where we got to engage in a completely different style of worship, and meet even more new friends. We are learning that Church Matters, no matter the shape, size or location.
