2019 Northern Ireland RIOT 4 Update 1
Posted: Sunday, July 07, 2019
We’re here! We arrived in Dublin this morning around 10:30 am (4:30 am to our internal clocks), and we were greeted by big smiles and lots of jokes from Richie, the director of RIOT, our mission partner. It was cloudy and rainy as we loaded up our bags on the mini buses we’ll be traveling in this week. But as Richie told us - “It’s sunny in Northern Ireland, let’s go there.” He was right.
We drove a few hours to the city of Dundrum, where we will be staying this week at the RIOT house. Our first stop was to the Monasterboice Crosses, some of the oldest structures on the island. They date back to the 10th century and they depict carved images of Bible stories. We spent time touching and talking about the history of what we were seeing. Then we prayed for the country we had just met, and for what’s to come this week.
Our second stop was for coffee. Obviously.
We landed at the RIOT house for a snack, and took a “wee dander” around the town to see the sites and to stay awake, in the name of beating jet lag. Four or five miles later, we were ready for dinner.
The day came to a close with cards, conversations, much needed showers and finally, bed. It’s hard to process all the beauty we’ve seen in this country already. We have grateful hearts for a smooth travel day, and expectant hearts for what God’s going to teach us this week about his Kingdom Work in Northern Ireland.
