June 20 - July 1
Located in east Africa, Kenya may be known for its vast landscapes—from the coastline on the Indian Ocean, to the savannah valleys and lakes, to the mountains peaked with snow year-round. It also can’t go without mention the great number of species that make their home in these lands, such as giraffes, elephants, lions, and rhinos. While there is much beauty to be seen in Kenya, brokenness paints the landscape as well with statistics such as these: 58% of Kenyans live on less than $2 a day; the unemployment rate sits at 40%; and less than 50% of children in the slum areas finish high school.
On this trip to Kenya, Engage partners with Jacaranda Community who is bringing beauty to the broken places. The mission of Jacaranda Community is to meet the spiritual and physical needs throughout Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi. They do this by creating jobs for widows and single mothers and training them how to sew. They also provide care and protection for the children of these women through education and health care. As a part of this team, you will get to join with Jacaranda Community to participate in home/prayer visits and youth and children’s ministry in the slums of Nairobi.
